Many of us in the world are grappling with problems such as unemployment, dysfunctional families, serious health conditions, depression, stress, so on and so forth in these uncertain times owing to covid. When you look around it is rare to come across someone who is perfectly happy and has a completely stress free life.
Well, the truth as we all know is, the ups and the downs will continue as this is life. Life is that restaurant that serves us our platter of joys and sorrows and currently for many of us it is a big buffet of uncertainty!
There are two activities/hobbies that helps me keep my sanity through difficult times, exercise and books. I am a self help junkie, self help is sometimes known to be cliched, mocked and looked down upon by many. But it works for me, for my peace, and I am sure for many others. Or else, why would the self help industry be worth almost 10 billion dollars. Self help theories, and following them during downtime are better than drowning in other forms of addictions that a fraction of the current generation is resorting to.
For e.g., if someone loses something they deeply cherish in life, and at these times, it is happening all too often. Health, wealth, peace, many of these important dimensions of life are at stake right now for many across the world. Self help techniques help in keeping our minds strong, resilient, positive, happy and eager to take on any challenges. Self help books sometime have fancy names and the names can be gimmicky, but often the suggestions are worthwhile that help in leading a peaceful and happy life.
The most recent book that I read was - 7 spiritual laws of success by Deepak Chopra. When I read more about him in Wikipedia, I found a fair bit of criticism about his theories as well. However on reading the book, you will notice the methods that he shares are indeed quite helpful. They may not lead to overnight riches or success, but if followed what they will certainly do is help becoming a more peaceful person.
Here are my key takeaways from the book. I write these notes as they serve as quick reminders to me, and not with the intention of copy pasting any material.
